At Pharma Marine we focus on high quality omega-3 products from sustainable marine ingredients. Our modern technology and proprietary in-house enzymatic processes, including purification and distillation, allows us to use marine by-products with valuable nutrient and lipid content. Newer inventions consist of optimized production procedures for increased quality and capacity, which is important for present product development and production flexibility. This has led to the development of eco-friendly and sustainable omega-3 concentrates from trimmings from food production of seafood.
All the marine oils Pharma Marine offers are certified as sustainable by Friend of the Sea
while CodMarine is also certified by Marine Stewardship Council.
Friend of the Sea
Friend of the Sea is a non-profit organization whose mission is the conservation of the marine habitat. The products and their origins are audited onsite by independent international certification bodies. Friend of the Sea is present worldwide and more than 300 companies have their products certified to prove that the origin of their products is produced from sustainable fisheries.
To be certified by Friend of the Sea means – amongst other things- that the fisheries will not overexploit the fish stock, have a low limit for discarding fish remains as well as clear rules for waste management. When using the Friend of the Sea certification you are contributing to the health of oceans by assessing and promoting sustainable fishing practices. This is a clear preference and basic philosophy of Pharma Marine™.
Marine Stewardship Council 
The Marine Stewardship Council is an international non-profit organisation. They recognise and reward efforts to protect oceans and safeguard seafood supplies for the future.
To secure sustainability, it is important to have control of by-catch and that the stocks are not overexploited to secure that there always will be resources available for the coming generations. Norway’s offshore Northeast Arctic (NEA) cod, saithe and haddock fisheries were certified 28th of April 2010 as sustainable under the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) environmental standard for sustainable and well managed fisheries.
The fisheries comprise of a wide variety of boats from large trawlers to smaller vessels using a mixture of fishing gear including trawls, longlines, Danish seines, hand lines and gill nets to catch cod, saithe and haddock.
The quota for Cod is decided every year in the fall between Norway and Russia. The decision is based on advice from The Council for the Exploration of the Sea and the Norwegian Institute of Marine Research.
MSC’s mission is to use the ecolabel and fishery certification program to contribute to the health of the world’s oceans by recognising and rewarding sustainable fishing practices, influencing the choices people make when buying seafood and working with partners to transform the seafood market to a sustainable basis.
